Eligibility & Application Process
                                          
                                          International students are eligible to apply for a Social Security Number (SSN) only
                                                when they receive a job offer.
                                          
                                          No Job Offer?
                                          
                                          If you do not have a job offer but need to provide proof of ineligibility for an SSN,
                                                please email ISSS@ucmo.edu for a Social Security Exemption Letter. This letter is essential for students without
                                                an SSN. Please notice that to obtain a Driver鈥檚 License you are still required to
                                                obtain proof of ineligibility for an SSN from the Social Security office.
                                          
                                          
                                          
                                          Steps for Applying for an SSN:
                                          
                                          
                                             
                                             - Request an SSN Letter:
- Complete the  with our office. This will initiate the process for your SSN letter.
- Important: Once you receive your SSN letter, schedule an appointment at your local SSN office
                                                   within 30 days. If more than 30 days have passed since you received your letter, you
                                                   must request a new one.
- Ensure the Timing is Right:
- You must schedule your SSN appointment no more than 30 days before your employment
                                                   start date.
- Prepare Your Documents: When you go to the SSN office, make sure to bring the following documents:
- SSN Letter from ISSS (dated within the last 30 days)
- On-Campus or Internship Employer Letter
- I-94
- Most recent I-20 or DS-2019 (signed by both the student and an International Student Advisor)
- Passport
- Complete the Online Application:
- Visit the Social Security Office website to complete your.
- Most offices require an appointment. After completing the application, scroll to the
                                                   bottom to schedule an appointment at your local SSN office. Remember: Each individual
                                                   must schedule their own appointment.
Note: If you do not complete the online application, you will need to bring the completed
                                                Form SS-5 (Application for a Replacement Social Security Card) to the SSN office. Most offices require online applications, so it's best to complete it first.
